About AELPS

AELPS Patient Safety Curriculum

The Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety curriculum is structured around our 4 core competencies (Leadership, Communication and Relationship, Professionalism, Knowledge of Healthcare Environment and Systems).  The Patient Safety Framework holds Patients and Families at the core of everything, and is designed to ground the learners in the concepts they learn throughout the week.

Current AELPS Faculty

Learners of The Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety have the unique opportunity to work closely with our program faculty, talking openly and candidly in the classroom, during teambuilding activities, and over dinner.  Our faculty, comprised of nationally and internationally recognized quality and patient safety leaders and patient advocates, inspire learners with unique teaching methods and powerful patient stories.  AELPS challenges learners to think differently about patient safety and design quality improvement projects to implement upon returning to their institutions.

Message from Our Program Leaders

Over the past thirteen years, close to 1,500 medical students, nursing students, pharmacy students and resident physicians have attended one of our week-long Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety (AELPS) workshops. Many of our AELPS alumni have gone on to lead real change at their home institutions, and we are continuously inspired to learn of their work and their leadership trajectory. The energy of these alumni is invigorating, and something we as faculty look forward to each year. It recharges our efforts at the front lines of care and we hope contributes to making care that much safer for patients and caregivers around the world.

Please consider supporting our efforts so more future healthcare leaders learn the important tenets on how to provide safe, high quality patient care.  To learn more about how you can make a Philanthropic gift in support of AELPS, please contact AELPS_Support@medstar.net.
