Hello all, my name is Ali and I’m very excited to meet you all in Colorado. I’m a resident physician in Nebraska. I heard about this opportunity from another Nebraska physician who had done her residency training at the same program where I’m currently training. She encouraged me to seek out this opportunity and I’m very excited for the week!
I’ve done my residency training at a large academic hospital and I think most of my resident colleagues would agree with me when I say that we all know patient safety is important & our emphasis on patient safety involves accurate orders being placed, direct & clear communication with nursing, pharmacy staff etc to decrease errors. However, we rarely get to be involved in the “behind the scenes” framework of how patient safety issues are handled and addressed. I’m interested to hear how other institutions increase resident participation in patient safety meetings, policy, etc.
I want to gain new insight on how patient safety concerns are addressed from an interdisciplinary team as well. As we all know, communication is key to preventing errors & I am eager to learn new communication skills & tools specific to patient safety. I am looking forward to brainstorming & collaborating with new healthcare professionals at the Telluride Experience!
